Detection of water losses on the hydrant network at the sanitary landfill for the Živinice region

After we received the Technical Report "Project of the derived state of the regional sanitary landfill of municipal waste "Separation 1", as well as the Water Supply Situation - the derived state for the landfill, we prepared and plan for the detection of loss on the hydrant network. On the basis of the submitted documents, it was necessary to perform inspection, control and testing work and to locate the failure points on the hydrant installation in a length of 971 m. On the mentioned network, there are 11 above-ground hydrants with latches with a flange and a head with a telescopic spindle and a street cap, and three hydrants in buildings

Arriving on the field and putting the pump into operation, we found that the pump mode is set by the minimum pressure range of 6.00 bar, when the pump starts, up to a maximum of 7.00 bar when the pump stops.

The complete hydrant network was under operating mode and water pressure, so based on the data from the project, we installed three pressure loggers for easier control and manipulation and separation of individual parts of the network.

All of the above was done in order to more precisely detect the part of the network where there is a problem, i.e. pressure drop. By monitoring the pressure on the control panel in the pumping station, we recorded before the start of any work that the pressure on the hydrant network constantly fluctuates and is in a continuous downward trend. The ratio of the pressure drop was such that the value drop of 0.3 bar occurred in a time interval of about 30 min.

On the basis of these observations, we concluded that it is a defect of very low highlighting intensity and therefore very difficult to identify.

After the results of currently measured pressures on three hydrants, we concluded that it is necessary to first close the valve in the shaft at the fire pump station, i.e. for the part of the hydrant network where there is uncontrolled discharge, which leads to a drop in pressure on the entire network.

We approached listening to a part of the hydrant network with an acoustic sound detector - a geophone, which is spatially located for the most part under a concrete base, as well as a part under a grassy surface.

An isolated high-pitched noise that indicated the existence of a malfunction occurred in the immediate vicinity of the overhead hydrant VH-2. By listening in more detail, we found that the fault is in the area around the mentioned hydrant or directly on it. We closed the pre-valve on the hydrant, which stopped the noise and the pressure drop on the hydrant network.

With this measurement or control, we concluded and confirmed that the defect was located and that it is necessary to repair the hydrant VH-2, i.e. in the underground part at one of the joints at the hydrant.

After the excavation was carried out and the fault was found and repaired, at the junction of the hydrant and the pipeline, the situation normalized, that is, the pressure in the hydrant network stabilized, which, after the technical acceptance, created all the prerequisites for the start of the operation of this very important Regional Garbage Landfill that covers the area of the three municipalities of Živinica, Banovića and Kladnje.

LThe suspicious part of the network was located by separating parts of the hydrant network. After that, the suspicious part of the network was listened to with an acoustic sound detector - a geophone. A fault was located at the branch of the hydrant network branch that separates towards the main facility of the factory.

The location of the leak was marked on the asphalt surface, and after the repair of the defect, it was determined by checking that there is no longer any loss on the hydrant network, thus successfully completing this work.

WATER LOSS RESEARCH

Management of the Trade and Production Company "GRMEČ-HEM" d.o.o. Banja Luka addressed us with a request to solve the problem of water leakage, ie invisible leaks and large losses on water supply installations.

After accepting the offer, we performed the service of inspection, control and tracing of the position of the plumbing installation from the water meter to and within the building, with the detection of bursts and uncontrolled water leaks.

By measuring the current flow on individual secondary branches of the plumbing installation and determining which branch it is, we approached the fault detection with an acoustic sound detector and located the place of the rupture in front of the company's office building.

After the repair, an inspection was performed, and it was concluded that the defect found was the cause of high consumption and that there is no longer an uncontrolled leak in the plumbing installation.

At the request of the management of the County Hospital “Dr. Mihovil Sučić ”Livno and the signed Agreement, by“ NMAqua ”s.p. Banja Luka, during April and May, fault detection works and tracing of the water supply installation within the hospital were performed. Due to the occurrence of enormous consumption, which in just seven days amounted to about 1413m³ or 202m³ / day, unlike the previous period when the average monthly consumption ranged between 760m³ and 820m³, we undertook under the Contract to detect failures and reduce consumption to the previous period. .

Considering that during the preparation for the execution of works, we received information about the non-existence of a precisely located position of the installation, it was necessary to do that part of the work as well.

In order to detect the uncontrolled leakage of water on the hospital's water supply network as accurately as possible, we first traced its position with precise location of certain points via GPS devices.

After the exact position of the outer ring installations, as well as each position of the place where the installation entered the cliff, as well as the position of the part of the inner installations that was available for tracing, the loss was detected. After a detailed and extensive control, listening and testing of the water supply network with an acoustic sound detector - geophone, a fault was located in front of the hospital, which was located at the fork of the installation around the building.

Due to the urgency and reduction of losses, and therefore financial costs, employees of the technical service of the Provincial Hospital "Dr. Mihovil Sučić ”Livno, very quickly approached the solution of the mentioned problem and excavation and elimination of the located fault.


By monitoring the continuous consumption after the elimination of the fault, it is evident that the situation in the supply of the hospital has normalized and the consumption has decreased compared to the previous period to an average of about 720m³/month. It is also important to note that according to the technical service, the pressure on the hospital's water supply network increased by an average of 1.5 bar, which greatly reduced the operation of pressure pumps for certain devices on the third floor of the hospital, which certainly reduces the cost of electricity. In order to complete the work on the works that were agreed in the contract with the County Hospital "Dr. Mihovil Sučić ”Livno, the GIS database was formed with its integration on the WEB platform.

Control flow measurement and consumption analysis

Based on previously successful cooperation in metering, analysis of the state of the water supply network and fault detection on the same, we were invited by the management of the Business Zone to perform measurements and analysis of consumption in the water supply system within the "Business Zone".

After monitoring the water consumption on the water supply system "Business Zone", the difference in consumption was recorded by reading the main water meter and water meters of consumers who are leased business premises, as well as owned, and who are supplied through it.

According to the data, the difference in the monitoring of consumption by the technical service "Business Zone" is about 100m³ on a monthly basis for about 60 internal consumers.

Due to all the above, the engaged team "NMAqua" s.p. is on 05.01.2020. year, the installation of an ultrasonic flow meter was performed. The flow meter is programmed to operate and store data at an interval of 1 min and a time period of 72 hours, in order to obtain the most accurate state of the network.

Due to the impossibility of installing a flow meter in the water meter shaft in which the water meter is installed, through which the complete "Business Zone" is supplied with water, an alternative measuring point has been determined where quality flow control and measurement can be performed, which is in front of the water meter

The main goal was to record the condition of the network, ie to measure the flow at night, in order to eliminate any possibility of any consumption on the installations.

By analyzing the obtained results and flow diagrams, we recorded at that time that there is no water consumption at night in the water supply network, as well as in installations, which indicates a difference in reading the main water meter and total consumption of user water meters, as well as inaccuracies of old meters.

Occurrence and detection of fault location

However, after a short time, there was a problem with an average difference on a daily basis of about 35m³, which indicated abnormal consumption or the existence of uncontrolled discharge.

By engaging the NMQau team, measurements were performed on the arms, with the manipulation of individual parts, as well as the consumers themselves. Based on the data, a malfunction was found on the part of the water supply network on the PEHD Ø110mm pipeline which is supplied to Nova banka.
