Management of the Trade and Production Company "GRMEČ-HEM" d.o.o. Banja Luka addressed us with a request to solve the problem of water leakage, ie invisible leaks and large losses on water supply installations.

After accepting the offer, we performed the service of inspection, control and tracing of the position of the plumbing installation from the water meter to and within the building, with the detection of bursts and uncontrolled water leaks.

By measuring the current flow on individual secondary branches of the plumbing installation and determining which branch it is, we approached the fault detection with an acoustic sound detector and located the place of the rupture in front of the company's office building.

After the repair, an inspection was performed, and it was concluded that the defect found was the cause of high consumption and that there is no longer an uncontrolled leak in the plumbing installation.

Improvement of the water supply system of the city of Gradiška by applying the AquaWEB application

In cooperation with the company ICTS DOO Belgrade and NMAqua Banja Luka , a software application for monitoring, reporting and analysis of the water supply network, called AquaWEB, was developed and implemented for the company Vodovod Gradiška.

It is a WEB application solution that enables graphical display and automatic reporting on the situation in the water supply network, pressures, flows, consumption and losses by DMA zones, it is explained in the announcement. The solution that has been implemented enables simple monitoring of the water supply network, where, based on the parameters of pressures and flows measured on the network and facilities, it is possible to monitor the trends of these parameters on a daily, monthly and annual basis.

The problem of the amount of available drinking water is becoming more and more pronounced all over the world. For this reason, more and more attention is paid to savings and prevention of unnecessary distribution and consumption of water. On the other hand, water companies that supply drinking water often encounter significant amounts of non-revenue water, ie. losses that occur due to frequent failures of the network and facilities, uncontrolled leakage of water, but also abuse by users.

According to ICTS DOO Belgrade, AquaWEB automatically analyzes data collected from flow and pressure meters and through loss indicators recommended by IWA (International Water Association), monitors the state of technical losses in individual zones or the entire network, depending on from the data available to the water supply company.

- The application was fully developed by ICTS, with the idea and professional help of colleagues from the company NMAqua Banja Luka, who were in charge of defining the necessary elements and ways of functioning of the software solution. Application for KP VODOVOD a.d. Gradiška works in two modes - a local application that collects data on a local server in the water supply system, and the data is sent in parallel to the ICTS cloud server, where all data on both servers are processed simultaneously. In that way, it is possible to access the necessary data from anywhere, and at the same time we have the necessary "backup" of data - they say in ICTS DOO Belgrade.

- As far as Vodovod Gradiška is concerned, the application of the mentioned application enables continuous monitoring of the parameters of the entire Gradiška water supply system with detailed monitoring for each measuring zone (DMA) separately, which enables timely detection of problems and thus quick reaction to its solution. At the request of “Lanaco” d.o.o. Banja Luka, we performed the service of inspection, control and tracing of the position of the water pipe in the circle of "Business Zone" Banja Luka in the length of 35m, as well as CCTV inspection (video recording) with a sewer pipe profile Ø200mm from the sewer manhole next to the main collector - sewer wastewater pipes. Due to the need to design communal infrastructure for the facility (barracks) next to the business building "Lanako" d.o.o. In Banja Luka, a part of the plumbing installation was traced - a 100mm PEHD profile water pipe.


Tracing of non-metallic pipelines is a very demanding job and a lot of care is needed to approximately locate their position with a satisfactory deviation.

For the purposes of this work, a sound pulse generator was used to acoustically locate the RSP DJETLIĆ pipe. Detecting and locating plumbing pipes can be difficult if the pipes are made of non-conductive materials. This applies to materials such as asbestos-cement, PE and PVC. In this case, the acoustic pulse technique is used. The sound pulse generator emits vibrations along the tube. Depending on the material and cross-section of the pipe and the type of soil, sound pulses travel through the pipe and can be detected on the surface using a geophone. In this way, it is possible to precisely determine the route of the pipe. During the work with this device, the route was listened to with an acoustic sound detector - geophone, on which it was assumed that a water pipe was installed, after the water meter shaft of "Nova banka" to the end of the barracks next to the Lanaco facility in the length of about 35 m.

Two types of probes for the acoustic device were used, because the interrogation was performed on a solid surface, asphalt as well as on the grass next to the barracks.

At the request of the management of the County Hospital “Dr. Mihovil Sučić ”Livno and the signed Agreement, by“ NMAqua ”s.p. Banja Luka, during April and May, fault detection works and tracing of the water supply installation within the hospital were performed. Due to the occurrence of enormous consumption, which in just seven days amounted to about 1413m³ or 202m³ / day, unlike the previous period when the average monthly consumption ranged between 760m³ and 820m³, we undertook under the Contract to detect failures and reduce consumption to the previous period. .

Considering that during the preparation for the execution of works, we received information about the non-existence of a precisely located position of the installation, it was necessary to do that part of the work as well.

In order to detect the uncontrolled leakage of water on the hospital's water supply network as accurately as possible, we first traced its position with precise location of certain points via GPS devices.

After the exact position of the outer ring installations, as well as each position of the place where the installation entered the cliff, as well as the position of the part of the inner installations that was available for tracing, the loss was detected. After a detailed and extensive control, listening and testing of the water supply network with an acoustic sound detector - geophone, a fault was located in front of the hospital, which was located at the fork of the installation around the building.

Due to the urgency and reduction of losses, and therefore financial costs, employees of the technical service of the Provincial Hospital "Dr. Mihovil Sučić ”Livno, very quickly approached the solution of the mentioned problem and excavation and elimination of the located fault.


By monitoring the continuous consumption after the elimination of the fault, it is evident that the situation in the supply of the hospital has normalized and the consumption has decreased compared to the previous period to an average of about 720m³/month. It is also important to note that according to the technical service, the pressure on the hospital's water supply network increased by an average of 1.5 bar, which greatly reduced the operation of pressure pumps for certain devices on the third floor of the hospital, which certainly reduces the cost of electricity. In order to complete the work on the works that were agreed in the contract with the County Hospital "Dr. Mihovil Sučić ”Livno, the GIS database was formed with its integration on the WEB platform.

Measurement and research of losses in the municipality of Kreševo

Based on the needs of measuring the flow and locating faults in the water supply system in Kreševo, the customer Hydro Control “d.o.o . Ilidža in the capacity of the Purchaser and NMAqua s.p Dejan Predojević in the capacity of the Contractor, performed field measurements and control of consumers and pipelines in the period from 11.03. to 13.03.2021. years.

According to the previously performed works on the water supply system JKP “Kostajnica” Kreševo and the Minutes from the field visit within the Project “Improvement of water supply in the municipality Kreševo” and the performed step test on the branch of the Meljine reservoir from by the client, it was necessary to perform micro-location of the area of losses on the specified part of the water supply network.

It was also necessary to measure the flow and control the parts of the network where the illogical difference in the amount of flow at the measuring points is shown, for the part of the water supply network from the Meljine reservoir, which according to the previous step test suspected significant losses.

Due to more expeditious work and research of illegal consumption and locations of uncontrolled consumption, ie losses, three flow meters were installed on the part of the main water supply network, which needed to be examined based on the results of the step test. Based on the results of measurements and analysis, parts of the water supply network were determined, on which it was necessary to perform detailed research.

By installing a flow meter in the Meljine reservoir, the amount of water entering the reservoir was measured, as well as the amount of water leaving the reservoir. Meters were placed before the water meter at the inlet and after the water meter at the outlet, where the most favorable conditions for measurement existed. After the measurement, a difference in the amount of water entering the tank between the water meter and the meter was observed.

After the first phase of flow measurement and research of losses and analysis of measurement results, and according to the Activity Plan, during May on the part of the water supply network supplied from the Meljine reservoir ultrasonic flow meters were installed at measuring points where there were even the smallest conditions for correct measurement.

The measuring points were determined in order to get the most complete insight into the distribution of the amount of water coming out of the Meljine reservoir on the part of the network where there are certain losses. During the measurement, three measuring points for all-day metering, seven places for control instantaneous metering and two metering points according to consumer business facilities were determined.

Simultaneously with the installation of the flow meter at the measuring points, the installation of the noise recorder was performed. The results of noise recording showed that the noise level does not indicate the existence of failures in the parts of the water supply network where they are installed.

After the completion of works on control, measurement and testing of pipelines and connections, it is estimated, based on the measured flow values, that about 4 l/s of uncontrolled water leakage on the water supply network was detected in the form of located faults.

According to the measurement data, considering the measured flow of the entrance to the Meljine reservoir of 8,145 l / s before detecting faults, night output of 6,606 l / s, the calculation gives a loss of about 80%, while reducing the night by 4 l / s faults on 2,606 l / s received a loss of about 32%.

Based on the conclusions on the conducted measurements and analysis of the results, Proposals for further activities to reduce losses and establish stability in the water supply system of the municipality of Kreševo were defined and presented. They need to be implemented as soon as possible in order to have a stable water supply of the population and economic capacities during the reduction of spring capacity, as well as increased consumption during the summer period.

Control flow measurement and consumption analysis

Based on previously successful cooperation in metering, analysis of the state of the water supply network and fault detection on the same, we were invited by the management of the Business Zone to perform measurements and analysis of consumption in the water supply system within the "Business Zone".

After monitoring the water consumption on the water supply system "Business Zone", the difference in consumption was recorded by reading the main water meter and water meters of consumers who are leased business premises, as well as owned, and who are supplied through it.

According to the data, the difference in the monitoring of consumption by the technical service "Business Zone" is about 100m³ on a monthly basis for about 60 internal consumers.

Due to all the above, the engaged team "NMAqua" s.p. is on 05.01.2020. year, the installation of an ultrasonic flow meter was performed. The flow meter is programmed to operate and store data at an interval of 1 min and a time period of 72 hours, in order to obtain the most accurate state of the network.

The main goal was to record the condition of the network, ie to measure the flow at night, in order to eliminate any possibility of any consumption on the installations.

By analyzing the obtained results and flow diagrams, we recorded at that time that there is no water consumption at night in the water supply network, as well as in installations, which indicates a difference in reading the main water meter and total consumption of user water meters, as well as inaccuracies of old meters.

However, after a short time, there was a problem with an average difference on a daily basis of about 35m³, which indicated abnormal consumption or the existence of uncontrolled discharge.

By engaging the NMQau team, measurements were performed on the arms, with the manipulation of individual parts, as well as the consumers themselves. Based on the data, a malfunction was found on the part of the water supply network on the PEHD Ø110mm pipeline which is supplied to Nova banka.

The current pressure measurement was performed with two digital meters and flow measurement with one ultrasonic flow meter on the pipeline Ø700mm at the entrance to the mini hydro-power plant "Sithonia" in Gornji Podgradci.

As part of the continuation of the conceptual solution of the problem of water supply from the spring on the water supply system of the forestry Gorica in Šipovo, flow measurement and pressure control were performed.

By measuring the flow of water on the two catchments from which the said water supply system is supplied, the available quantities were determined, ie their yield.

By visiting and visually inspecting the part of the indented pipeline 100 mm from the catchment to and behind the connection point, the problems that need to be eliminated in the next period in order for the system to be functional were also determined.

By recording the height elevations of the pipeline, for which there has been no documentation of this type so far, and by making a longitudinal profile, a plan of necessary repairs will be made. In addition to the rehabilitation of existing facilities, as well as the replacement of certain fittings and valves in line shafts and overflow chambers, it will be necessary to build some additional facilities, in order to put the network in the length of about 6 km into operation.

The measurement was performed on three steel pipelines with a profile of Ø1000 mm, for each high-voltage pump separately, with a variable operating mode.

The flow measurement interval is set to 5 seconds, due to the short measurement period, as well as due to the most complete and accurate data.

Flow meters were installed at the only available and possible measuring points agreed with the Client, in open excavation in the ground behind the pumping station, and that there were physical conditions that ensure accurate measurements within the regularity of measurements.

 

 

The measurement of each pump was individually measured for about 10 min, as the water level was very low and the inflow of water into the reservoir was very low, and it was necessary to perform flow measurements at all three pumps.
